Roads and pavements

Road Cleaning & Repairs
Road sweeping continues to be done by the Town Hall. Repairs to kerbs and other small areas have been made quickly once reported to the Town Hall.

As damage becomes apparent it can be reported by anyone to the Town Hall using the mobile phone app Xàbia Connecta available from the Play Store or App Store.

Drains
We continue to regularly clean the sumps as well as clear the pipes if necessary but expect owners with sumps near their properties to check and clear drain covers as necessary in between times. We will always clean drains immediately after storms as a matter of course.

The Town Hall have not yet replied to our request for help with the technical or financial aspect of repairing the pipes following the Limpiezas Javea inspection report. We will pursue the matter with the new administration as soon as we can.

We have an amount in the reserve fund for repairs to be made to the drains.

Weeds
We have sprayed weeds, using a licensed contractor, several times this year and will schedule regular work to keep the weeds down. We have also cleared weeds by strimming to reduce using weedkiller.

There is a persistent patch of weeds at the corner of C/Paul Gauguin and C/Eduard Manet which needs further investigation to see what can be done to eradicate them permanently.

We urge all owners to clear the weeds around their properties, so that costs are kept to a minimum. If weeds are dealt with as soon as they appear it takes only minutes to clear them, whereas once established it is much more difficult.

Hedges overhanging pavements
As in previous years there are several properties where the hedges are badly overhanging the pavement and obscuring streetlights. We ask that this be attended to promptly.

Streetlights

Following the trial of solar light units, a proposal was submitted to the Town Hall for consideration of financial help to replace our system. At a meeting with the Councillor for Urbanisations and the technician for lighting it was request that we provide an estimate for an electrical system as the Town Hall could not invest in solar systems.
An estimate was provided by the company who we had dealt with for the solar lights, but no reply has yet been received from the Town Hall. We will pursue the matter with the new administration as soon as we can.

Owners are asked to report any lamps that don’t switch on when it is dark so that bulbs can be replaced promptly, also any posts where the front plate is missing so that they can be replaced to reduce the risk of electrical shock or faults developing due to water getting in.

We have and amount in the reserve fund to repair and replace lamp posts and improve the system if agreed.

Post boxes

The boxes need constant attention to keep them maintained we need to allow for replacement in the future as they are deteriorating.

Our reserve fund is held against this eventuality.

Undeveloped plots

C/Sandro Botticelli 1 and 13
These continue to cause concern because they are not fenced off and are used for the disposal of rubbish as well as being allowed to overgrow onto the pavements and road posing a fire risk and nuisance.

The owners concerned as asked to keep the plots as clear as possible to reduce the risk of fire and to deter rubbish being dumped on them.

We continue to monitor the situation and hope that building work takes place on both plots to complete the housing on our urbanisation.

Noise Nuisance

Once again from the start of the holiday season, we have had unruly, noisy renters in various houses in our streets. The owners concerned have reacted quickly to notifications about this problem, but it would be better if it never occurred in the first place by restricting renting to families and not allowing groups of youngsters.

We encourage all owners to make sure their renters are not groups of youngsters and that they are made aware of the quiet nature of our neighbourhood and that noise outside is unwelcome and not permitted during the siesta time and after 12 midnight.

Neighbourhood Watch

Malcolm March continues to act as co-ordinator for information which he issues by WhatsApp, email, and the Facebook Group. Everyone is reminded to be alert should they see suspicious people or cars, phoning the local police immediately.
